This is the room our therapists use to assess the needs of children and young people – it’s a calm space that is designed with children and young people with challenges in mind. The environment is colourful, though not overly distracting or stimulating and so is great for encouraging focus and engagement on assessment activities. There are live feed cameras that allow parents and carers to watch the assessment on a tablet from the family waiting area.
Family Waiting Area
Our waiting areas is an inviting and comfortable space that allows parents, carers and educators to watch treatments on the screens. Although Future Steps encourages parents and carers to be actively involved in all treatment, we appreciate that this is not always possible, practical or, in some cases, a well-earned rest and cup of tea is needed. There is a small kitchenette accessible for those in the family waiting area, where it is encouraged to help yourself to drinks – there is donations box should anyone wish to contribute.
Our huge sensory room is an exciting space that entices even the most reluctant of children and young people. It is this room that our therapists have the opportunity to utilise various swings, crash pool, interactive screens and soon to be a zipwire! The exciting swings in this room challenges the sensory systems, with over 12 swing points and lots of swings to choose from there is no shortage of therapeutic development here.
This is a unique, calming and inviting space and it is fascinating, in that this one room functions to develop almost all the sensory systems and gross motor skills at once. Filled with Lycra hammocks, children are challenged to in order to reach the top and once all the handwork is done, they are able to relax in the comforting. womb-like spaces of the hammocks. During this calming period, work on understanding emotions, socials skills and developing positive relationships takes place, through storytelling and communication.
The Motor skills room has various equipment to allow the child plan and develop their resilience and strength and to gain a greater understanding of their bodies, so they can engage and learn. A fun space with dynamic equipment which is appropriate to all ages including adults.
Early Years Sensory Room
A smaller environment for our babies and young children which offers a combined space from sensory to motor. Beautifully decorated, with different textures, swings, and soft play slide, water play, ball pool and so much more… to address and develop the child’s ability to overcome challenges.
Outdoor Treatment Space
We recognise the needs of all children and young people, and therefore we have created our own outdoor area to allow children to experience climbing, sand pits, water and different sensory experiences from our plants. This colourful and safe area allows another sensory motor experience whilst also allowing parents and siblings to be entertained whilst their other child is being treated.
