Programmes for Home & School

Additional programmes are fantastic as standalone tools; however, they also have a hugely positive impact when delivered alongside clinical treatment.

As well as a positive effect on development, programmes of this nature allow individuals, families and educators to have ownership and understanding of therapy, providing an opportunity to independently develop the sensory and motor systems.

Home Programme

Home Programme

Home Programmes are created to ensure this therapeutic progress continues, providing the individual and their parents or carers with effective strategies and knowledge to support development within the home and community. They come in the form of a structured timetable and information resources, specific to the needs of an individual. We ensure that any additional resources are low-cost and, where possible, found in the home already.

These programmes are manageable, effective and should be an engaging activity for those involved. Through the following of direction and guidance of our occupational therapists, the programme should have a positive developmental effect that continues progression once clinical treatment ends.

Listening Programme

Listening Programme

Includes headphones, MP3 player and 6 CDs loaded (12-week Rental)

The Therapeutic Listening® is used to assist the child to filter out background information, which reduces feelings of being overwhelmed and allows for them to focus for longer periods of time, resulting in increased productivity and engagement. You will receive a concise programme that gives all the information on how to use the Therapeutic Listening® and how to use it.

It uses organised sound patterns, inherent to music, to impact all levels of the nervous system to increase attention, balance, body awareness and control, communication, social engagement and organisation of sensory input. Overall, children are more organised and behaviourally regulated and have more rapid therapeutic outcomes.

The function of the ear is to feel and hear sounds and movement. It is referred to as the vestibular-cochlear system. This system is the first to develop in the utero and provides the foundation for both time and space organization of all other sensory systems. Therapeutic Listening® treatment stimulates and exercises the vestibular-cochlear system. It is designed to enhance the accuracy of the sensory information sent from the vestibular-cochlear system of the ear to its multiple connections throughout the nervous system.

School Programme

School Programme

School programmes are developed for children and young people on an individual basis; focussing on their specific needs. It is essential that programmes are practical to be delivered in the education setting and so, during development, therapists consider the curriculum, environment, resources and staff/timing restrictions. Occupational therapists deliver training to ensure individualised programmes are carried out with confidence.
